Our current games projects include Habitochi - a virtual pet which looks after you, Hangry Birds - a fun way to learn about birds and what they eat, Larping in a Box - a simplified RPG system to create games for fun and education, and ??? - an as yet unnamed tabletop game to teach Critical Thinking skills. If you like, you can also find several games (including rules and printable materials) in various states of completion on our blog.
We are 'Games for Good' because we believe that a gameful approach to life is can bring out the best in all of us. Games can help us to learn, to achieve, to innovate and to solve problems. If you have a game you want to bring to life, but don't know where to start, speak to us. Bear in mind however, that we are fluffy treehuggers - so if your game is about teaching your marketeers to sell more cigs to kids in the third world, or pushing chemical filth which will ultimately kill bees - speak to someone else.
Ultimately a game is just a way of delivering an experience, and this is the most important aspect in our work. The theme, game mechanics and choice of materials and technology used to deliver the games, should all support the experience.
We offer a number of workshops and courses, open to everyone, which teach the fundamentals of games design, games creation and gamification. We also have a wide range of resources and tools which you are free to use in your own projects. Training is available in the use of these, and we can can run in-house design workshops for you.
Our approach focuses strongly on experience creation and thorough playtesting. Please take a look at our Games design methodology for our commitment on how we will work on your project. Detailed analysis and design will comprise the majority of effort in any given project.
Your game may be anything from a simple photocopied set of rules, to a commercial quality boxed game. We aim to support you to get exactly what you want from your project in the cost-effective way we can.
The design documentation and tools will be made available to you, if you wish to use your own in-house expertise during the development phase of your project. We can offer help, expertise and recommendations as and when required.
The portfolio of skills we can draw on in-house and through our trusted suppliers include, table-top and computer game development, app development, high quality materials production (printing and games piece production), story-line development and subject matter expertise.
Your games project may produce a stand alone 'boxed' entity, or be part of a larger delivery such as a learning intervention. You may wish to own it outright or to license a version of the developed game from us. We can accommodate all these situations.
For a game which is part of a face-to-face learning intervention, if you chose to deliver your learning intervention yourself, we can help with logistics, Train the Trainer and any other practical considerations you may have.
Our facilitators are trained teachers in the Learning and Skills (Adult Education) sector, with experience of delivering courses in Business and Finance areas, Psychology, Critical Thinking, IT and Computing and many other topics. In addition to this, we have access to partner facilitators with expertise in Forum Theatre and other forms of interactive learning delivery.
